Film/TV Scenic Art

I have worked both as a scenic painter and scenic artist in the film industry for around 28 years. I have the impression that the film industry, unlike that of the theatre industry for example, is more compartmentalised in its operation and thus one can be easily pigeonholed into one type of role. ‘Spitting Image’, was the production where I really began life as a scenic ‘painter’, although the rapid turnover of topical settings and the feeling of belonging to a ‘theatrical’ family made for a very fluid working environment that required a certain kind of versatility. The photos below are all examples of jobs where I have taken on briefs that required drawing skills ie: scenic art.
